IO5 - Education students, teachers, children and artists explore at school the role of art in educational practices
On Wednesday 25th May, artists Rosa Llop led one of the last sessions of the training course that has been developed within the INTERSTICE project (intellectual output 5).
This experience-based session was held at the Primary school Josep Maria de Sagarra (Barcelona), where children, UAB students and teachers could think together, though a co-creation process, about the contribution of artistic practices for the role of educators, and the role of art in fostering adults’ and children’s critical thinking.
Rosa Llop already collaborates with this school, where she is resident artists within Espai C project. In this training, thirty UAB students of Early Childhood and Primary Education could get to learn in an experiential way this project; and be the protagonists of this approach to art education which is promoted by INTERSTICE project, where the borders between art and education, schools, universities, cultural centres… are blurred.
During this session with students, they were asked to co-create a collage, in total silence. This way, they had the chance to experience the contribution of non discursive languages to the educational practice. They expressed that they could agree and disagree with others, from a point of respect; they were able to understand the peculiarities of the collective work, although the final result may be diferent than what they personally expected; and they could express insecurities in regards to their own abilities.
